Improving Preparedness, Eastern Indonesia Region and BASARNAS Hold Disaster Debriefings

Jakarta - In an effort to improve disaster preparedness in actual conditions, PT Pertamina EP Cepu East Indonesia Regional collaborated with the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) to brief East Indonesia Regional management and officers on Wednesday-Thursday (4-5/12) at the Patra Jasa Office Tower.
The series of activities began with the presentation of the BASARNAS Team to officers regarding readiness to face disasters that can occur at any time, followed by a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) simulation of flood assistance followed by management and officers, witnessed by the BASARNAS team.
Eastern Indonesia Regional Director, Muhamad Arifin explained that disaster preparedness needs to be improved starting from oneself. ''Preparedness plays a very important role, so it is necessary to upskill human resources in the company, especially the Emergency Response Team,'' he explained.
The collaboration between PT Pertamina EP Cepu and BASARNAS is a synergy for knowledge sharing on policies and strategies for disaster aspects, including the role of SAR in disasters. This is necessary considering that the Eastern Indonesia Regional operating area is vast and often far from adequate infrastructure so that it needs to be aware of the potential disasters faced.
Arifin hopes that with this simulation FGD, BASARNAS can provide input to PEPC's emergency preparedness and response (ERT) team.
“Simulations carried out with flood scenarios are directly witnessed by BASARNAS and get feedback evaluation for continuous improvement,” he added.
Taufan Hunneman, President Commissioner of PT Pertamina EP Cepu, also added, “Disaster preparedness is not just a company obligation, but it is our moral responsibility to the work environment and society. Through strategic collaboration with BASARNAS, PT Pertamina EP Cepu is committed to building a strong emergency response culture, ensuring every individual has the skills and readiness to face critical situations for mutual safety.”
Head of BASARNAS, Air Marshal Kusworo appreciates the company's steps that have taken the initiative to collaborate with BASARNAS by sharing knowledge in the field of Search and Rescue (SAR).
“The knowledge sharing that is being done now is a good start between the government through BASARNAS to the company and it is hoped that in the future the synergy between the two will be stronger in implementing good disaster management,” he said.
Through the collaboration initiation, PEPC can test the company's disaster governance so that there is continuous improvement. ''This activity starts from training to human resources, fulfillment of facilities and infrastructure for simulations or joint exercises so that we will know in real terms what to do if emergencies occur,'' Kusworo added.
In the future, PEPC and BASARNAS will conduct training for the internal emergency preparedness and response team on Wednesday-Friday (11-13/12) with materials ranging from disaster management, procedures for evacuating victims, medical first responders, handling megathrust earthquakes, floods, and so on. The hope is that the company will be able to prepare, respond and manage emergencies and disasters effectively in the future.
