BOJONEGORO – Children with Special Needs (ABK) are a small part of the community. Until now, as many as more than 1000 children in Bojonegoro fall into the category of children with special needs with an age range from pre-school to high school. The data is a recording from the Education Office in January 2018.
Those who fall into this category are those who are deaf, blind, quadriplegic, mentally retarded, hyperactive, tunable, learning difficulties, and so on.
However, not infrequently they have special talents, such as in musical arts, farming, raising livestock and also sports.
This condition has inspired the Principal of the PGRI Kalitidu Special School (SLB) to direct his students to be able to live independently even though they have limitations.
“We direct our students to become an independent generation, their special needs are not a barrier. That’s why we intend to develop hydroponic plant cultivation on this tilapia pond. Because we saw that the students seemed very interested in farming. It is proven that our garden is also very beautiful, that’s all the students also take care of it, “said Sri Purwi Handayani, or usually called Mrs. Pur, witnessed by Saiful Bahri as the Head of the School Committee.
Due to this, PT Pertamina EP Cepu (PT Pertamina EP Cepu) which is the operator of the Jambaran – Tiung Biru (JTB) Unitization Gas Field (JTB) was moved to help SLB PGRI Kalitidu students develop hydroponic plant cultivation by donating 10 packages for cultivation, such as planting media, paralon, pumps For irrigation, hydroponic plants include lettuce, mustard greens and chives.
In the SLB which has around 60 students, PT Pertamina EP Cepu hopes to be an important part of the students’ life journey to be more independent in facing the future.
“Hopefully, with this assistance, the students will be even more motivated to excel in any activity. The most important thing is that schools can lead their students to become human beings who are capable of being independent and more beneficial to the surrounding environment,” said Kunadi, JTB Site Office & PGA Manager of PT Pertamina EP Cepu.
